Injection Molding Tools
3D-Printed Injection Molding Tools
Due to high costs and long lead times of injection molding tool production, 3D printed tooling as an alternative option has become more popular in recent years. By combining high-strength 3D printing resins with fast turn around additive processes, 3D printed injection molding tools can be designed and printed within a few days.
Thingsmiths works with automotive and other manufacturing companies to develop and produce prototyping tools. Using Formlabs Rigid10K resin tools of adequate strength can be used to mold thermoplastics such as polypropylene, ABS, etc. As the technology advances production, not just prototyping, tooling will likely be entirely made by additive manufacturing.
